island time

a few days after returning from tennessee,
we loaded up and headed to the island for a quick trip.

the captain and his crew picked us up here.august and bubba reunited (it had been over a week since playing together!),
and then headed to the island.
we dropped our bags and headed straight for the beach.

some played.
some relaxed.
some solved the world's problems.
some worked on looking cool.
some like the waves.
some had enough.
some fished.
some visited at the shore.
and others sized things up!

revells: thank so much for the wonderful, but way too short trip.
we enjoyed the company, food, laughter, and friendship!

river time

every boy needs a fishing pole for the river.
so we got one. then promptly took it back for the more kid friendly (aka - eye friendly) version.

he loved the cold river water.
and hanging out with gran and pa.
throwing some rocks.
the big boys tubed.
and swam up river.
we didn't catch anything,
but enjoyed trying.

most mornings we walked down the river road,
all the way down to the covered bridge.
and felt a little bit of fall in the air.

and dreamed of sipping sweet tea on an old farmhouse front porch.

oh, what i would do to take a peek into this old house.

putt-putt

my boy LOVES golf,
so a round of putt-putt was in order.
he takes his golf seriously.
and has a heck of a swing.
was somewhat confused about the frogs.
and decided to tee off from their tongues.
and for some strange reason he managed to shoot a 2 on every hole.
it may have to do with the fact that somehow all his putts were all about 2-inches from the hole.
not good proof, but proof that i actually made the trip to tennessee.
it was about 9 holes to long with a boy who didn't nap.

beauty (around the cabin)

somewhere i read about not only taking in the people and moments of the place,
but the other things that make it beautiful as well.

so i took it in - man made and god made.

it is amazing what you can see:
summer blooms fading,
first leaves beginning to fall,
hard work from nearly 100 years ago,
footprints we leave,
and i can almost smell that freshly cut grass on the sidewalk.
